Hello Honors Students!
Welcome back to Pensacola for another amazing year in the Kugelman Honors Program! We have had a great start to the year, and I’ve written a quick recap on the last couple of weeks along with some upcoming information for you all.
1. UWF Move-In Day was active as always! We worked alongside volunteers from Hillcrest Church, and some members of our football team and Greek life to help move students into Pace Hall!
2. Honors Induction commenced on Move-In night, and it truly was a night to celebrate the incoming class of 2020. With Holly Griffin, an alumna of the program, as the keynote speaker, everyone in the Music Hall was moved by her words about the benefits she received as an undergraduate student. The night concluded with socialization and photos, and those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the evening!
3. Honors Orientation was a blast for everyone in attendance! The new class of freshman were educated on all of our Honors requirements and events, as well as what each year of the program has in store for them. At the end of the day, the mentor groups were subject to Dr. Lanier’s “Hand of God” for the annual “Protect the Egg” Competition. After two rounds against the device, only one mentor group was able to protect their egg!
4. The Class Walk and Welcome Back BBQ had an unexpected clash with Mother Nature. Unfortunately, she won with her rainstorms that began 45 minutes into the event. Nevertheless, everyone who came to the event enjoyed the food and conversation before the monsoon hit!
The Honors Council is primed for a year of success with another great Executive Board. We have spent the summer planning out all of these wonderful events, and all they are missing is YOU! In addition to coming to the events, we are looking for people to take a direct leadership role in all of our committees. The meeting times for each of the committees are as follows:
Social: Thursdays; 3-4 PM
Service: Tuesdays; 4-5 PM
Fundraising: Fridays; 1-2 PM
PR and Infinite Wisdom: Mondays; 12-1 PM
Whether you are a freshman or a super senior, every student within our program has the voice to give feedback that deserves to be listened to. That is one of my biggest points to make as President this year, and we will promise that for now and years to come. Remember that Council meetings are Tuesdays at 5:30 in Building 12.
Thank you all for a great opening weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone around and meeting some new faces!
Your Honors Council President,
